Villa Thalira at golden hour with its infinity pool above the beach in Crete

Plakias Bay, Rethymno, Crete

Villa Thalira

A private beachfront retreat on the south coast of Crete, where the terrace ends in sand and the sea begins.

The villa

Quiet luxury, one step from the water

Built into a terraced olive grove above its own crescent of sand, Thalira is a contemporary Cretan house of lime plaster, local stone and reclaimed oak. Five suites open to the sea, an eighteen-metre infinity pool runs the length of the terrace, and every window frames the Libyan Sea.

The house sleeps ten in comfort, with daily housekeeping, a private concierge and a chef available for long evenings under the pergola.

Guest reviews

Ninety-four stays, an average of 4.98

We have stayed in villas across the Mediterranean and nothing came close. Waking up to the sound of the sea ten metres from the bedroom door is something we still talk about.
Charlotte & James · London, United Kingdom · Ten nights in June
The house is genuinely beautiful — restrained, cool, full of light — and Eleni thought of everything before we did. The chef's evening of Cretan mezze was the highlight of our year.
Familie Brandt · Hamburg, Germany · Two weeks in August
Three generations, five bedrooms, one very happy family. The children lived in the pool and on the beach while the rest of us drifted between the pergola and the sun loungers.
The Karalis Family · Athens, Greece · Nine nights in September
Absolute privacy without feeling remote. Plakias for dinner in ten minutes, Preveli gorge before breakfast, and then nobody but us on the sand all afternoon.
